On Sunday 10th October 2010 the Bangladeshi Caterers Association (BCA) presented

Cafe Tamarinds

with the award for the best restaurant in the midlands region.

The BCA has 12,000 memeber restaurants and this was a particularly special year to win as the ceremony coincided both with the BCA's 50th anniversary, and the 200th anniversary of the opening of the UK's first curry house.

The awards were handed out at the BCA's Awards ceremony at the Park Plaza Hotel in London watched by Bangladeshi dignitaries and several UK politicians.

The winners were selected for their "outstanding achievements amongst their industry peers" by a panel of industry judges, with advice from curry expert and well known author, Pat Chapman.

Cafe Tamarinds owner Mintu said "I am extremely proud of what the restaurant staff have achieved since opening ten years ago. Staff continuety helps to keep everything at a consistently high level."

The country was split into nine regions, with London and the South east having two sub regions with four restaurants from each "region" making it through to the finals.

To get through to the finals Cafe Tamarinds had to initially submit a description of their restaurant, food, and a number of photo's showing the restaurant and the food served.

The second stage consisted of a number of mystery visits from members of the BCA to try the restaurant for themselves.

A video representing the restaurant "live" was then put before the  panel of expert judges before a final decision was made

The BCA Awards 2010 will be broadcast on satellite channel Zee Café on Sunday 31st October at 4.30pm.
